Ferrosilicium hat ein breites Anwendungsspektrum und kann zur Desoxidation von Stahl, zur Inkubation von Eisen zur Beschleunigung der Graphitisierung und zur Änderung der Stahleigenschaften verwendet werden.
Die Zugabe einer bestimmten Menge Silizium zum Stahl kann die Festigkeit, Härte und Elastizität des Stahls erheblich verbessern. Daher wird Ferrosilizium auch als Legierungsmittel beim Schmelzen von Baustahl verwendet (0.40-1.75 % Silizium), Werkzeugstahl (30-1,8 % Silizium), Federstahl (40-2,8 % Silizium) und Transformatorenstahl (2,81-4,8 % Silizium). Es handelt sich um eine wirksame neue Technologie zur Verbesserung der Stahlqualität, zur Senkung der Kosten und zur Einsparung von Eisen durch Verbesserung der Morphologie von Einschlüssen und Reduzierung des Gehalts an Gaselementen in geschmolzenem Stahl
